Frequently Asked Questions

Books

What is PediaPress?

PediaPress brings wikis to print. At PediaPress, you upload a collection of content from a wiki. PediaPress uses automated typesetting software to convert the content to a format that is suitable to be printed as a book. Books are printed on demand. Each produced book is unique.

How are books typeset?

Typesetting is done by software that converts MediaWiki markup and generates printable PDF documents of high quality. However since wiki editors may have used wrong wiki markup or our service might not be able to interpret the markup correctly, some pages may look strange and poorly layouted. We are working hard to further improve the typesetting software.

What is print on demand (POD)?

Print on demand (POD) is a method of producing books one at a time using a digital file. After you have ordered your book our printer on demand partner produces the hard copy based an a PDF-file we provide and ships it within days.

What is the books specification?

Books have dimensions of 5.5" x 8.5" (216 x 140 mm), are perfect bound and printed black & white. The maximum number of pages is 800.

How are book prices calculated?

The cost of a book depends on the number of pages contained in addition to a base fee.
